CEOS Youth Program: Students Join GOSAT-GW Satellite Launch Event Arber Lladrovci

Recently, students from our CEOS Club took part in the CONSEO GOSAT-GW Satellite Launch Support Event, held at X-NIHONBASHI TOWER in Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district. Guided by their supervising teacher, Arber Lladrovci, the club meets regularly to delve into the exciting world of Earth Observation satellites and explore environmental challenges with a forward-thinking, international mindset.

The CEOS Club at our school was established in coordination with Ms. Nakamura, a member of JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency), providing students with a platform to explore Earth Observation and global environmental issues. The CEOS Youth Program 2024/25, led this year by the UK Space Agency, offers unique opportunities for students worldwide to discover how satellites contribute to addressing critical challenges such as climate change and sustainability. As part of this international initiative, our students have been actively engaged in workshops, discussions, and projects that inspire them not only to learn about satellite technology but also to reflect deeply on the future of our planet as global citizens.

During the CONSEO GOSAT-GW Satellite Launch Support Event, held on June 28, 2025, students listened to presentations from leading experts in meteorology, polar research, and fisheries, who explained the significant benefits and roles of the new satellite, GOSAT-GW, designed for observing greenhouse gases and water cycles. A memorable highlight of the day was the interactive session with the event’s MC, well

known TV announcer and Assistant Professor at Doshisha University, Taichi Masu. Students were delighted to meet Mr. Masu, saying, “We grew up listening to him!” Mr. Masu himself seemed pleasantly surprised to see an organized group of students attending the event in person.

One of our students, had the unique opportunity to ask a question during the session. From the response, the audience learned why the satellite is represented in yellow in official illustrations—it helps maintain thermal stability and protects sensitive instruments from extreme temperatures.

This inspiring experience deepened the students’ appreciation for satellite technology and its vital role in solving environmental challenges. The CEOS Club looks forward to

participating in more exciting activities and continuing to foster a sense of global responsibility among its members.

CEOS ユースプログラム：生徒たちが GOSAT-GW 衛星打ち上げイベントに参加 Arber Lladrovci

先日、本校の CEOS クラブの生徒たちが、東京・日本橋にある X-NIHONBASHI TOWER で開催された「CONSEO GOSAT-GW 打ち上げ応援イベント」に参加しました。指導教員の Arber Lladrovci 先生のもと、CEOS クラブは定期的に集まり、地球観測衛星の魅力や地球規模の環境課題について、国際的な視野を持って学び続けています。

本校の CEOS クラブは、JAXA（宇宙航空研究開発機構）のメンバーである中村さんとの協力のもと設立され、生徒たちに地球観測や環境問題を探求する場を提供しています。2024/25 年度の CEOS ユースプログラムは、今年度は英国宇宙庁が主導しており、世界中の生徒たちに衛星が気候変動や持続可能性といった重要な課題にどのように貢献しているかを学ぶ貴重な機会を提供しています。この国際的な取り組みの一環として、本校の生徒たちはワークショップやディスカッション、プロジェクトに積極的に参加し、衛星技術を学ぶだけでなく、地球の未来についてグローバルな視点で深く考える経験をしています。

2025 年 6 月 28 日に行われた「CONSEO GOSAT-GW 打ち上げ応援イベント」では、気象、極地研究、漁業の分野で活躍する専門家による講演が行われ、温室効果ガスや水循環の観測を目的とした新しい衛星「GOSAT-GW」の役割や社会的意義について説明がありました。当日の印象的なハイライトの一つは、イベン

トの司会を務めた同志社大学助教であり、著名なテレビアナウンサーの桝太一氏とのインタラクティブなセッションでした。生徒たちは「私たちは彼の声を聞いて育ちました！」と喜びの声を上げ、桝氏も学生が組織的に参加している様子に驚きと嬉しさを感じているようでした。

また、本校の生徒も、セッション中に質問する貴重な機会を得ました。その回答を通じて、衛星が公式イラストで黄色に描かれている理由が「熱安定性を維持し、精密機器を極端な温度から保護するため」であることがわかりました。

この貴重な経験は、生徒たちに衛星技術への理解を深めさせ、環境課題の解決におけるその重要性を再認識させる機会となりました。CEOS クラブは、今後も
